NextHunt Review

The NextHunt team visited Bergenbos in February 2020. Located 7km outside of Groblersdal, its far enough for peace and quiet, yet close enough if you run out of ice.

We were received by Johan's team who drove us to the camp and helped offload our luggage. The camp was immaculate in anticipation of our arrival.

On the smaller end of the spectrum, Bergenbos camp did not stand back for anyone and we stayed in absolute luxury, as his SA Tourism Council 4-stars attests to. From the Le Creuset pots to the crisp fresh white linen. It was particularly pleasant looking out over the game while taking a shower in the outdoor showers.

We felt very safe with Tyson, Johan's lovable staffie patrolling the camp as well as the electric fence and cameras in certain public areas .

In the 34C heat of the day, the air conditioners were very welcome. The 3m x 3m pool also offered welcome respite.

The farm is part bush, part mountain as the name clearly says, however, the mountain is almost inaccessible due to the vast amounts of sekelbos. The game is not skittish at all and will make for a semi-easy hunt. There is also an elevated hide for bow hunting.

Bergenbos is not Johan's primary business and as such availability is very dependent on his busy schedule. Although the camp sleeps 11, a maximum of 3 hunters can be accommodated at any single time.

The accommodation is very well priced for what you're getting. The game prices are slightly higher than average due to the fact that they are constantly fed and in very good condition. For a small family hunt, Bergenbos is ideal.

We enjoyed our stay at Bergenbos and will not hesitate to visit them again. Photos don't always do a place justice, as there are often small nuances that add to the experience, which cannot be captured on film. Bergenbos is a NextHunt recommended farm.
