Hunting Area
Below the majestic peaks of the northern Drakensberg, the Letaba River in the north and Elephants River in the south, embrace a picturesque valley situated between the towns of Tzaneen and Hoedspruit. This aptly named Valley of the Elephants forms a true wildlife paradise.
Chimoyo Wildlife & Safaris stretches over 3,100 hectares of unspoilt bush and is centrally situated in the Valley of the Elephants. The species diversity and abundance of animals coupled with the remoteness of its location, adds unique old style Africa romanticism and excitement to your safari. Here you hunt anything from the dainty steenbuck to a majestic buffalo bull!
The habitat is distinctly and predominantly African lowveld with sweet grass, many tall trees such as leadwood, knob-thorn and marula as well as low shrub like trees mostly consisting of Grewia species. The hunting area is normally divided into 5 blocks of 600 hectare each and we allow 5 hunters out at any given time. There is a sunken (pit) blind for bow-hunters at one of the popular water holes.
Chimoyo Safaris is located outside the foot and mouth disease control area, in the lowveld of Limpopo, South Africa. Accordingly, all meat and venison, including buffalo meat, may be transported to the rest of South Africa with the necessary permits which we will provide.

NextHunt Review
The NextHunt team visited VAR Safaris outside of Pongola for a Macnab hunting weekend on 23-25 August 2019. We were received warmly by Grant, the farm manager, Alice the house manager and cook, and Mto, the head guide.
The lodge is an old yet comfortable farmhouse which has been tastefully renovated. The rooms and bathrooms are spacious and neat. The beds and linen are of good quality. Two of the rooms in the house have their own porches, where you can read a book or relax in the sun.
The lapa, pool and sundeck is just a few paces from the house and provides a beautiful panoramic view of the farm.
The entire lodge is powered by solar and gas.
Alice and her team always prepared the most delicious meals for us (catering is included in the price) and even made us some unbelievable burgers (with pink sauce!) to take with on our day outing to Lake Jozini, about 100km away, where we went tiger fishing.
Being a cattle farm until 2018, the farm hasn't experienced hunting in decades, which explains the tameness of all the animals - even the rabbits were relaxed. There is no shortage of animals with plenty of impala, kudu, blesbuck and blue wildebeest grazing placidly all over the farm. All evidence of a cattle farm has successfully been removed.
The farm is 500km from Gauteng and takes 6 hours to reach via the N17.
VAR Safaris has been a nice farm to discover. Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication, which is why we enjoyed our stay so much. No expectations, no pretense. VAR Safaris is now a NextHunt recommended farm.

Client Review
We arrived at the Kwazulu Private Game reserve gate just before dark. We had an awesome drive through the reserve & saw some of the wildlife the neighbouring big 5 farm had to show.
Being our first time with VAR Safaris we did not know what to expect, the drive to the farm from the main gate is about a 15km gravel road (I would recommend going in a Bakkie).
Our reception by Grant and the support staff was great!! We Arrived just after dark and was received with warm welcomes all round.
Our accommodation was the old farm house, this was great - the rooms & Ablution facilities were spotless & Clean with enough fresh linen & blankets in the rooms for those cold nights.
We had a couple of cold ones around the boma - talked about the history of the farm - then sat down for supper.
The food was great!! We ate like Kings the whole weekend.
Our hunt was awesome, the staff was knowledgeable & did not stop until we got our two nice big Impala Ram’s.
This was a memorable experience for us and definitely worth the trip.
Thanks to Grant, Susan & All the staff for making it a great experience.

NextHunt review

The NextHunt team recently visited Langkloof Game Farm in the Rooiberg district, near Bela-Bela in Limpopo.
We were received by Cornelis and Cathryn van Rooyen who manage the farm. Cornelis studied nature conservation and worked with prominent game breeders for many years before joining Langkloof and his positive influence and great ideas on the farm is very evident. Cathryn is a born hostess with a warm and caring personality which ensures that you won't want for anything during your stay.
There are various accommodation options at Langkloof including Toera guesthouse, Boshuis, Berghuis and Rietfontein farmstead, the latter three of which are currently being renovated.
The topography is typical bushveld with beautiful mountains leading up to a vantage point only accessible to the best 4x4 motorists or hikers.
Having received 300mm of rain during December, the veld is lush and green with the animals in top shape. Hundreds of Impala, wildebeest and kudu run around, unafraid of human contact, as 2018 was the first year ever that hunting took place on the farm. Over 4500 hectares of prime hunting farm and beautiful accommodation makes Langkloof Game Farm a NextHunt recommended farm.

Situated on 3,500 ha in Lephalale (Ellisras), Limpopo
Wilton Valley was bought by the late Hennie de Jager in 1970 and the farm Krokodilvlei, on the opposite side of the Matlabas River, in 1980, the children have, in line with their father's legacy, values and ethics, been managing the business since 2012. With 22 species of animals on the ranch, Wilton Valley can be classified as a one-stop game ranch where most of South Africa’s plains game can be hunted.
We are situated in the Limpopo Province, 300 km (190 Miles) North of Pretoria next to the Botswana border. This area is often described as the most beautiful, exciting and challenging hunting area in the country. Depending on the skills of the hunter, an average of one quality trophy per hunter can be bagged during the course of one hunting day.
The standards of accommodation, food, trophies and services at Wilton Valley are a great source of pride and the policy of management and staff is to satisfy our customers and to make them feel at home.
ACCOMMODATION
Our accommodation fits perfectly into the bush surroundings with 6 thatched Chalets and 4 Rondavels, sleeping up to 33 people. The main building has a trophy room, well equipped kitchen, bar, outdoor dining area seating 16 people and barbeque place/lapa. The impressive leadwood, camelthorn and ana trees creates a wonderful atmosphere, and visitors to Wilton Valley can enjoy the tranquility of nature. The Lodge is surrounded by grass lawns and it is often seen that the wild animals enter the lodge area to graze on the lawns. This is possible because the animals are not to be disturbed nearby the water place and the lodge and they gradually get accustomed to the safe haven in the vicinity of the lodge and the water place.
?Visitors often use the swimming pool during the summer time as well as during the sunny days in autumn- and springtime. Rest assured that Wilton Valley judges itself by first world standards when it comes to efficiency and care. Experience genuine South African hospitality.

NextHunt Review
The NextHunt team visited Wilton Valley Hunting Safaris on the Botswana border near Buffelsdrift, Limpopo.
It took us 3.5 hours to get to the farm from Pretoria, after first stopping for a quick breakfast at the Wimpy in Thabazimbi. As you reach the "end" of the country (SA-Botswana Border), it really feels like you're almost totally removed from society, as there are no shops for at least an hour's drive in any direction.
Once we arrived at the camp, we were greeted by Max Tau, who looks after everything in and around camp and makes sure everything is clean and tidy. Nicus van Rensburg, Wilton Valley's PH and Farm Manager arrived shortly thereafter and showed us around. They recently renovated two of the four rondawels, which looks fantastic! There are also 6 "langdawels" that makes up the PAX 30 capacity at Wilton Valley. The kitchen and lapa has also recently been beautifully renovated and is fully equipped. It even has free Wi-Fi, display fridges and a bar.
Once we got settled in, we took a game drive through the bottom part of the 3075 ha farm to experience the sights and sounds. There was no shortage of game as the veld looked amazing from the abundant rains they had had recently. It was as if all the colours in the field were in UltraHD and it was beautiful. There was a good balance between veld and trees, roads and dry riverbeds, to provide good traffic for the animals on the farm.
After lunch we saw the top part of the farm, where the tree density is a little higher. They provide good cover for walk and stalk, which is the method for hunting on Wilton Valley, unless specifically arranged due to health reasons. We visited all of the bow hides (pit and elevated), which were in a good condition and which should provide quality hunting opportunities.
One of the top Outfitters in South Africa make use of Wilton Valley for their Limpopo hunts, booking out approximately 50% of the available dates. Judging by their high standards, I can understand how they've had such a long-lasting relationship with Wilton Valley.
The accommodation rate (Hunters R650/night, Non-hunters R450/night, Children R200/night) seems a little steep initially, but actually compares well when you consider that everything (slaughtering, cold storage, tracker, hunting vehicles, fire wood, accommodation, cleaning and even VAT!) is included.
What I liked specifically:
•There were no separate smaller camps on the farm, except obviously the camps where the people sleep, it was just one big uninterrupted farm.
•The veld varied between the bottom and the top part of the farm, which allows for closer or longer ranged hunting, including bow hunting.
•The main camp was beautiful, well equipped and provides a great atmosphere.
•The two renovated rooms. It feels like you're in a 4-star lodge. The mattresses and linen were good and the bathroom was beautiful. If that's not your scene, then you can stay in any of the other rooms, which has a nostalgic romance to them as it feels as if you're back in 1985. All the rooms have ceiling fans.
•The amount of animals and the fact that they're not scared of vehicles, as no hunting is done from vehicles.
•The hospitability of the staff. Very friendly, accommodating and helpful throughout. They are genuine people that have a passion for what they do.
•The big lawn around the chalets and lapa and all the big trees (mainly Leadwood and Camelthorn). There was a constant breeze through camp coming from the pond where the two crocs live. Yup, crocodiles ??
•The remoteness of the location.
What I didn't like specifically:
•The road between Brits and Beestekraal is not in a good condition, with lots of stop & go's and potholes in some places, although the rest of the road to Thabazimbi was fine. After Sentrum, there is about 60km of dirt road before you reach the farm, although the condition of the road was fairly good. The alternative route, via Steenbokpan-Medupi road wasn't too bad, but added another half hour to our journey via Vaalwater/Modimolle.
•Game prices are slightly on the high side. Zebra price should include the carcass in our opinion.
•That we didn't stay for a whole week.
Visiting Wilton Valley Hunting Safaris has been a highlight for us and will be on our shortlist for our upcoming hunting trips. We cannot wait to revisit the farm and maybe even stay at the Hunter's camp on the Limpopo river.
Wilton Valley is now a NextHunt Verified and Recommended Farm.

A 5-star Family Weekend
The NextHunt team visited The Wild Fig Bow Hunting Lodge with friends and family (including lots o' children) during September 2017. A mere 130 km from Pretoria got us there (just outside of Bela-Bela) in around 90 minutes.
Upon our arrival we were impressed by the staff's warm and friendly greeting and the venue's comfortable accommodation with en-suite bathrooms. There are 2x6 sleepers, 2x4 sleepers (2 beds and 2 bunks) and 2x2 sleepers along with a main lodge consisting of a spacious living room, dining room, kitchen (oh the kitchen!) and pantry with more than enough fridges and other appliances.
At the center of the camp is the fire pit, where we spent the evenings around a big fire, while the guys braaied on the side.
A splash pool (locked behind a gate and fence for wandering children) offered some respite against the dry bushveld heat. The kids area kept them playing for hours and gave us time to relax.
In being a bow hunting farm, the animals weren't skittish or as scared of the vehicles as one would expect towards the end of a hunting season, which made for an enjoyable game drive.
Despite being a bow hunting farm, the owner will allow rifle hunters towards the end of the season and with prior arrangement. For rifles, a 100m range with a proper shooting bench provided opportunity to sight our rifles. If you ask nicely, you can go to the 1000m range, if you're up for it. The 250 hectares might sound small, but a walk down to the gate will definitely give you a decent workout. Predominantly bushveld, with some open plains where longer shots may be required. There are a few ground and elevated hides from where your quarry may be taken, unless you opt for a walk and stalk. Blue wildebeest, blesbuck and impala were in no shortage, but please don't shoot the friendly (pet?) nyala and kudu bulls that come to drink water behind the chalets every night!
There were cleaning staff around to keep the kitchen in top shape, which was so nice not to worry about (this isn't charged extra, so remember to tip).
The Wild Fig is open throughout the year for hunting as well as non-hunting bookings, so feel free to take the family through, even if you don't intend to hunt.
In summary
- Beds: Fresh & clean
- Plumbing: Good, clean, plenty of hot water
- Service: Always friendly
- Cost: Very low
- Animals: Plenty
- Value: Excellent
We've already booked our next trip to The Wild Fig and we suggest you do the same!

Lentegeur Wildlife is a beautiful 2900 hectare game farm which is located in the heart of the South African bushveld, near Thabazimbi (Limpopo province). As game breeders we are passionate about our animals and the health of their habitat, a natural balance nurtured by all of our team.
We would love to share this passion with you! Wether you are looking for your next hunting trip, a relaxing stay in one of our camps, or to interact and learn more about the wild, Lentegeur Wildlife is the place for you!
OUR STORY
Lentegeur Wildlife was founded in 1997 as a hunting destination for both local and international clients. Lentegeur Wildlife is a proudly family owned and managed company.
The owner, Maurits van de Wetering, is a first generation South African born from Dutch immigrants. He studied engineering, worked at, and later became a share holder of a trailer manufacturing company in Pretoria. In 2001 he bought his first farm and started game farming part time. He bought Lentegeur Wildlife in 2009 and moved with his wife Annemarie and six children to Thabazimbi.
Lentegeur Wildlife management was taken over by Maurits and since then the company started with big changes. The 1800ha farm was cleared of invasive plant species over a period of 5 years. This project has increased the grassing capacity of the farms between 4-8 fold. In 2009 Lentegeur Wildlife also immediately started with building of breeding camps for Sable, Nyala and Buffalo. By September that year the first breeding stock was bought and delivered to Lentegeur Wildlife.
The commercial hunting side of the company temporary stopped after 3 hunting seasons to allow for the expansion for the breeding programs over the initial 1800ha property. In 2015 Lentegeur started looking out for adjacent or nearby land for expansion. A 1100 ha adjacent farm was bought mid 2016 and a new hunting lodge was immediately build and hunting started again in March 2017. The model of having a breeding farm on the one side and a hunting lodge on the adjacent farm proves to be a big success. Book your stay with us to experience game farming first hand.

NextHunt Review
The NextHunt team recently visited Lentegeur Wildlife near Sentrum in Limpopo.
We were shown around by owner Maurits van de Wetering in his 2900 hectare paradise. Maurits has spent 6 years and a lot of money to de-bush half the farm to transform it into the original savannah which it used to be before cattle was introduced close to a century ago.
The animals are evidently very happy with the abundance of grass and in very good condition. Very large herds of Impala dominate the scenery along with many Kudu, Blue wildebeest and Waterbuck.
Although the savannah is beautiful to see and loved by the animals, it will challenge hunters as cover is also limited.
The other part of the farm is still covered by dense bush and large trees. These bushes also contain large amounts of animals and although they may be more difficult to spot, hunting should be easier.
The accommodation at Lentegeur's Monkey Thorn camp is appealing in aesthetics as well as practice. The camp has two dorms with en-suite bathrooms, ceiling fans and air conditioning, sleeping a total of 12 people. A communal kitchen and lapa is situated in-between the dorms. Additional accommodation is available in the farmhouse which is currently being renovated as well as a guest suite close to the main house.
Maurits (jokingly?) guarantees that if you don't have your cross-hairs on an animal within 10 minutes of leaving the camp, that animal is free. It took us 4 minutes.
Lentegeur promises to be an unforgettable hunting trip and is now also a recommended NextHunt destination.

NextHunt Review
The NextHunt team visited Almar Game Ranch in January 2018, where we were welcomed by owner Louaan Grobbelaar (whom you might recognize from Boer soek n Vrou, shot here in 2014), who showed us his beautiful farm. Consisting mainly of wide open plains, it also has some shrubbery and trees to provide some respite to the animals from the very hot kalahari sun. There was no shortage of animals and one could image a hunt being not too difficult.
Louaan also showed us the lodge, which was very impressive with its great hall, where many weddings and corporate functions have been held. They have an industrial kitchen able to cater for any need. The accommodation was luxurious and beautiful. One couldn't help but think that their asking rate was too cheap for what one was getting. There is also a children's play area and a big boma where there fire is lit every night. The farm has a flat 1,6km dirt airstrip, able to accommodate most light aircraft. Everything on the farm was in immaculate condition, even the old ruins of a farm house of many years ago.
Almar Game Ranch is an oasis and a jewel of a farm, half-way between Kimberley and Klerksdorp. Almar has been added to our bucket list as a hunting destination and we will definitely go back one day. Almar is a NextHunt Verified and Recommended Farm.

NextHunt Review: Welcome to warthog paradise
There is absolutely no shortage of game and although the game is managed well in order not to make them too skittish, you should not expect it too easy. As it still hadn’t rained by the end of August, the bush was naturally very brown and in some areas somewhat barren, however the animals didn’t want for grazing and were in very good shape. If you are looking for warthogs, welcome to warthog paradise.
The terrain varies between thick bush, open plains and rocky hills. You soon get a good idea which areas each specie prefers. Some areas on the farm are inaccessible during the rainy months due to the slick turf preventing any but the most foolhardy access. What with 4,300 ha of hunting area (including the Naboomspruit farm), you’ll have plenty of space to find your quarry. The terrain is ideal for walk & stalk hunts, but also allows hunting from 6 hides, one of which is an elevated hide.
Because Beestpoort is made up of five ex-cattle farms, there are still a few areas where the fences haven’t entirely been removed yet. This is more of an aesthetic issue than a practical one, as it doesn’t hinder you or the animals’ movement. They also assists with caping and the delivery of your meat to one of two good butchers in the area.
All in all it was a very enjoyable and relaxing weekend and we look forward to our next hunt at Beestpoort next year.

Hunter Review: Beestpoort Hunting Safari’s

NextHunt Review: Welcome to warthog paradise
The NextHunt team recently visited Beestpoort for a very enjoyable hunt. We stayed in the Plaashuis and whilst you should not expect luxury, you can expect everything you'll need in the house, including new beds and mattresses (bring your own linen) as well as good service and good guidance by their young and energetic PH, Marnus.
They also assist with caping and the delivery of your meat to one of two good butchers in the area.
All in all it was a very enjoyable and relaxing weekend and we look forward to our next hunt at Beestpoort next year.

NextHunt Review
The NextHunt team visited Matla Phofu Game Farm and can attest to the farm's beauty and charm.
Kallie and Melinda Venter have been living at Matla Phofu for 17 years and have turned this farm, on the banks of the Matlabas river, into something special.
Located mid-way between Lephalale (Ellisras) and Thabazimbi, some 280km from Pretoria, this 1200ha game farm is so much more than just a place to shoot for the pot. With its big lawn, swimming pool (heated and regular), kitchen and elegant rooms, families and corporate groups are also welcome. Its beautiful bar, jacuzzi and fire pit is a great place to wind down after a successful day's walk and stalk or hunting from one of the many blinds.
Don't be fooled; just because there is plentiful game, do not expect an easy hunt as you will have to work for your quarry by navigating through the trees and sand and try to outsmart the vigilant animals. Impala, Blue wildebeest and Monkeys are everywhere, but you will also find your Eland and Kudu if you look very closely.
The bow hunters have a few hides to choose from, among others a 2- and 3-story elevated blind.
Non-hunters can bring their fish and tackle and set up next to the dam or read their favourite book back at the lodge.
Matla Phofu has without a doubt been one of the nicest farms we have been to and can assure anyone planning to book their next hunt, that they won't be disappointed. Matla Phofu is a NextHunt recommended farm.

Hoop dit reen ook vroeer as later by julle!
Jagters groete

Client Review
I had the opportunity to recently go on a memorable hunt at Inkwazi Safaris in the Richmond area of KwaZulu Natal supported by their PH Ruan Pretorius.
The accommodation at Nyala Pans lodge was basic, but clean and comfortable and provided everything that I needed for my two day hunt. The camp staff was friendly and helpful and their hospitality added to a very pleasant stay.
The hunting took place in the beautiful Umkomaas valley. The beautiful natural bush on the rolling hills and steep deep ravines, provided a challenging but extremely rewarding hunting experience.
My target species were Bushbuck and Nyala.
Ruan's expert knowledge of the area and the species targeted enabled me to find me two good representative trophies in the limited time that we had available.
Our stalk down the mountain and through the thick vegetation of a ravine to within shooting range of a beautiful Nyala Bull, definitely counts as one of my best stalks on an animal in over 20 years of hunting.
I would definitely recommend Inkwazi Safari's to any hunter and I am looking forward to my next stalk through the hills and dales of the Umkomaas valley with Ruan.

NextHunt Review
The NextHunt team recently visited Paul & Colleen on their farm, Vaalkrans. Vaalkrans is located on the R34 outside Heilbron towards Edenville in the Free State. A mere 90 minutes drive from Sandton lands one at an exquisite game lodge on a "bushveld type" farm on the Free State plains.
Paul is a game breeder with a soft spot for Nyalas and an understanding of game ranching. His animals are therefore in top shape and the numbers in equilibrium with the field. There was no shortage of Nyalas (don't shoot them or there'll be trouble!), Springbuck, Tsessebes, Sable, Bontebok, Blesbuck (in a separate camp to the Bontebok) and Reedbuck. From the lodge and deck's amazing vantage points, you can spot the three giraffes almost any time of the day.
Vaalkrans hasn't experienced much hunting though. Paul opened the farm to hunting only last year (2018) and has only had four hunts since. The animals are therefore still calm and relaxed at the site of humans, which makes for realitively easy hunting. Hunting is primarily done on foot, with a bow or a rifle with a silencer.
The Lodge is truly splendid with four rooms, all en-suite. Three of the rooms have double beds and the fourth room has two single beds.
All rooms have ceiling fans, operated by remote control.
Colleen has an eye for style, with small but tasteful touches to make the stay more special. The beds all have new firm mattresses, the duvets are thick to keep out the freezing winter's chill and fresh white towels are provided frequently.
Next to the lodge is the deck overlooking the farm, with a swimming pool, bar area, kitchen, bathrooms and a boma built to contain heat and minimise wind disturbance.
The Hunter's lodge is located a mere 300m from the main lodge with two bedrooms both sleeping two persons each. The kitchen, bathrooms and boma is located 20m away so as not to disturb weary hunters looking for some shut-eye.
The entire farm is fenced with electric fencing, which gives one a sense of safety.
Paul & Colleen are amazing people that make you feel welcome from the moment you arrive 'til the moment you wave goodbye.
This has been one of our favourite farmstays and makes Vaalkrans a NextHunt Recommended Farm.
